StarOffice 8 Conversion Technology Preview is a plug-in for Microsoft Word 2003 which enables users to import, edit, and save documents in the OpenDocument Format (ODF). Initially, the plug-in will only support the conversion of text documents (.doc/.odt), with full support for spreadsheets and presentations expected in April. The converter is simple to install and use, conversion happens automatically, and the extra memory usage is minimal. Microsoft Word users can now easily switch between the two formats.
